My Students

Every morning when entering the classroom, there's so much to share about what was experienced between the end of the day yesterday and when I see them again in the morning. These are my kiddos, excited, talkative, loving, and ready to learn.

The joy of childhood is in actively learning, and growing.

Despite attending a Title I school with limited resources and struggles with academics and language, these boys and girls continue to strive, to meet high expectations for success.

My Project

My students enjoy reading and love to go book "shopping" at our classroom library. Most of our books are just leveled readers that do not have a richness of language that my students need to build their literacy skills. Books of high interest that will hold their attention and expose them to new vocabulary and increased comprehension are missing from our library.

Children need exposure to and interaction with great literature.

These books will increase my students desire to read and interest in the writing process as well.

To enrich the literacy learning experience of our students my school has adopted the Columbia University, Teachers College, Reading and Writing Project curriculum. Unfortunately, our funding is limited and we are unable to provide the recommended TC library. This collection of books will help provide my students with classic and contemporary titles that will familiarize them with authors and authors' craft not found in the leveled readers.
