This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 25 awesome third through fifth-grade diverse learning students in a great Chicago Public School. Our neighborhood school is located in southwest Chicago, in a working-class community. The majority of my students come from minority families, who at the present time are struggling financially.
My group of children are a happy and friendly bunch who are eager to come to school and learn.
For many parents the ability to purchase books is not possible.
Checking out a book from a local library seldom happens due to parents working late hours to make ends meet, or not feeling secure enough to allow your child walk to the library. Sadly, those days are gone.
My Project
I am asking for books, from various reading levels and interests, to replace and or update my classroom library. Due to Covid and the shut down of schools, many of our classroom library books have gone missing.
Some of the books, last year's students borrowed, never thinking we would not return to finish the school year.
Boy, were we wrong. Sadly, due to restrictions, those books are forever gone from our classroom library.
Other books are a new selection since the students are reading at a much lower level due to Covid as well.
