My Students
Too often, students with autism are sent out into the world without the adequate skills to help them be productive and contributing members of society. This project is geared towards giving these students vocational skills in the area of agriculture and farming that will help them in the future.
My students are 9 of the most delightful middle school children!
They are full of enthusiasm, motivation, and all attributes that most adults strive for. They also happen to have autism. We are located in an inner-city in the state of New Jersey, and these students attend a public middle school.
My Project
Individuals with autism spend so much of their lives being looked at "differently". This project will give them the opportunity to be part of the mainstream of life, creating something that can be shared amongst the entire school population, as well as the community they live in. Children with autism learn best by actually carrying out the tasks being taught, and this will allow them to do just that. Creating a functioning aquaponics system, breeding fish, and growing plants will teach them vocational skills, increase fine-motor and gross-motor skills, as well as increase their overall language skills. This experience will be invaluable for them.
We need your help.
Help us to give these wonderful students the chance to open doors that may not be opened for them otherwise. Help to make a difference in these amazing children's' lives. Pay it forward and I promise, the rewards will be ten-fold.
