it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
For the past 10 years, our students conducted a phenotype/genotype research project to test an individual's ability to taste the chemical PTC. This is a well-studied trait that may provide some evolutionary advantage to those who possess it.
Our research project is based on an analysis of heredity and genetic expression of the PTC gene (TAS2R38), or the bitterness tasting gene, as a function of cultural diversity.
Although there may be regional differences, ultimately, we are more similar than we are different.
Unfortunately, such projects are expensive. To continue our research project for 2020-21 school year, we need the miniPCR kits as many of our students have a variant of the gene that cannot be determined by the traditional kits available. This kit can bridge the gap that exists for my students that do not show any results with other primers that use the HaeIII enzyme.
Obtaining the kits and chemical reagents is beyond the scope of my public school. We will not be able to carry out our research without the support of caring individuals like you.
