This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember the pride you felt the first time you solved a problem all on your own? Unfortunately with education today, students are not learning to think for themselves.
In Title 1 schools students often are not given the rigor found elsewhere.
I have noticed a big problem with my students' ability to think for themselves, to write persuasively, and to read closely. So I have devised a mystery literature circle unit to accomplish all that. These students deserve the opportunity to prove their capabilities.
My Project
Using mystery novels, my students will have to read closely to extract clues and solve the mystery. Mid-way through the reading, the students will be asked to create a persuasive essay in which they must convince me who, in their novel, is guilty of the crime. This persuasive essay will not only increase their persuasive writing, but enhance their problem-thinking skills and encourage them to really analyze what they are reading.
These kids are the future of our country, and they must be taught to think for themselves.
They must be exposed to good literature; they must be equipped with the ability to write well, and they must learn to solve problems through critical thinking. Through your help, this can be accomplished!
