My students need books and educational videos to teach us about different compositions and composers as well as software for the students to create their own composition pieces.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach music in a HIGH needs low income elementary school. Due to budget restraints, the music program is not receiving the funding that is necessary to keep my program alive in the elementary school (k-5). In addition to this it is obvious from student ISAT deficiencies that increased literature and reading vocabulary are needed throughout the curriculum... INCLUDING cross curricular incentives with music class.
I am in desperate need of books that relate to music elements that I can read in the classroom to teach students about composers while also teaching them vocabulary and reading skills. Eventually students will become their own composer later in the school year and I want the students to have some knowledge of what composers do and who they are.
I will need several music books that tell the stories about composers and famous pieces of music. This will help engage students in understanding that being a composer IS a real job and that it can be fun and rewarding. I also need videos to supplement our stories. Many of our students learn through audio and visuals and while a book is great, supplementing it with another component reinforces the student learning. Also it would be great to get a composition software piece so students can try composing their own music.
YOU have the opportunity to help inspire creativity in my students. You have the opportunity to show students that music and reading are great partners. You have the opportunity to enrich student lives beyond the classroom by giving them the tools to explore and become their own music master! Please consider helping this program.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
