My students need books in order to start their mini library in our classroom. In addition to this, they also need journals in order to write and draw their ideas according to a prompt.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My group of kindergartners are eager to explore and learn. They are enrolled in a dual language program and are on track to becoming bilingual. They love the Hispanic culture and enjoy participating in all the cultural activities including South American, and even the European culture.
Families are extremely involved and are very supportive.
They love to come to school each and every day. The fact that they almost all have perfect attendance is testament to their eagerness, motivation and dedication to their learning experience. Out of 63 elementary schools in our district, we kindergarteners are #1 in perfect attendance in the district and my class specifically in my school! These students are extremely talented, but it is up to us adults, to provide them with the tools and skills necessary to learn and succeed.
My Project
These books will help us effectively have our reading center, in which 4 students at a time plus the teacher take time reading and learning new words (hence 5 books per title). They will also have the opportunity to write their own book in the journals we are also asking for.
Reading centers are extremely effective because they get the opportunity to one-on-one read with the teacher and learn how to read smoothly.
The science books will also serve as hands on activities as well as learning about the scientific environment. After reading, we will have science in-class projects on, for example, planting plants, or watching caterpillars throughout their stages to become butterflies.
