Mini iPads For Marvelous Minds

My students need 3 iPad minis and cases (to protect the tablets) to be able to use technology to increase their literacy and math growth.

My Students

In this day and age my students are way more intrigued and apt to stay focused when they have technology in their hands. I need new and varied ways for them to read stories and practice math and literacy skills. Getting three more iPads will allow me enough to have for a small group.

I have a rambunctious group of 23 first graders who love learning.

Our school is located in a middle class area in Oklahoma. My district has not yet been able to implement full day kindergarten for every student, so I have students coming to me with all different kinds of ability levels and experiences. Some families will even not choose to go to kindergarten at our school if they do not get the full day slot. This is just another indicator that shows the wide gap that my students have in levels and experiences amongst each other. Despite that, my school has very high standards for the achievement of its students. We try to rise and meet that challenge every day differentiating for each child and meeting them on their level.

My Project

With this technology my students will be able to read ebooks, use apps to practice their math and literacy skills, and use apps to extend their knowledge on various science and social studies topics. The tablets will give my students the chance to practice skills already taught in small groups, giving them a more concrete understanding and firmer grasp of the subject matter.

My students are captivated by any sort of technology they can get their hands on.

To be able to have more than one tablet where each child in a small group of students can have their own would be a great opportunity for them to use their technological skills in an educational way.
