This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing human beings! They are full of life and have endless potential to do so many wonderful things. My school is a Title I school in a poverty-stricken community.
Our school consists of a very large English language learner population.
All of our students receive free breakfast and free lunch. Many of our parents struggle to help meet the needs of school supplies and the needs of their children. Regardless of these circumstances, my students overcome! They are learning how to face challenges and grow stronger academically, socially, and emotionally, preparing them for the next level of life.
I believe that these students deserve every opportunity this world has to offer and I am determined to help them get it.
These students can change the world with their brilliant minds and can climb out of the cycle of poverty through the gift of education. They will learn that the world is theirs for the taking with hard work, dedication, and knowledge.
My Project
My students are obsessed with books!
Give children books they want to read, even if it's Minecraft!
Not too long ago, I desired to give away stickers that have been building up. In that growing collection where laptop Minecraft stickers. The students flipped out! (One nearly did a backflip.) So I asked them, what else do you want? "We have stickers. We play the games. But Mr. P, are there any books we can read?" Yes there absolutely is. Thus, this project was born!
I won't be that teacher that forces students to read books they don't want to. I will be that teacher that tries to provide them books that they're interested in, even if it's Minecraft books!
Through Minecraft books students will be able to teach coding, teamwork, history, and so forth. Minecraft is more than just motivating kids to read, it teaching skills that they'll need to in their future jobs!
