What is coal? How did we find coal? How do we mine it? What do we use it for? Is it safe? We needs books on and related to coal in order to find the answers to these questions and more!
I teach a prekindergarten through eighth grade hands-on science lab in an inclusive public elementary school.
For this unit, my students range in grade from first through eighth, vary in their academic skills, and are (mostly) enthusiastic rock hounds!
My Project
My students need to listen to and read books on and related to coal! Help ignite my student's minds with books about coal! In this unit, students will engage their imaginations as they travel back to the Carboniferous Period of the Paleozoic Era to explore how coal in Illinois was formed; then, in present time, students will "mine" coal while learning about mining equipment, safety, and responsibilities; and then students will investigate the main uses of coal in electricity and steel production.
The books you help provide, will deepen and expand my students understanding and interest in all aspects of coal (formation, mining, energy, use, transportation, environmental impact, electricity, etc.).
It is important for my students to have access to quality books that are informative, engaging and readable. The delivery of a "load" of books related to coal would be greatly appreciated and well used! Help ignite a passion that creates future geologist, engineers, environmentalists, etc.!
