My Project
I teach an incredible group of students in a Level 3 Emotional Behavior special education classroom. Every day, I witness their strength, resilience, and deep desire to learn, even in the face of challenges many can't imagine. My students inspire me with their creativity, humor, and determination. They show up, and so do I — because they deserve nothing less.
I work in an inner-city public school where resources are often limited, but the need is great.
My students benefit tremendously from consistency, structure, and tools that help them regulate their emotions. They thrive when they feel safe and supported — emotionally, mentally, and physically.
That’s why I’m asking for social-emotional learning (SEL) books and mindfulness equipment. These resources will give my students the tools they need to better understand and manage their emotions. The books will help us explore topics like kindness, empathy, and emotional regulation through stories they can relate to. The mindfulness and fitness tools will help them calm their minds and bodies, giving them healthy outlets to process frustration, anxiety, or excitement.
My students especially love when we do fitness together — it gives them a sense of accomplishment and helps them refocus. They’re learning that movement and mindfulness can be powerful tools to regulate emotions and build confidence.
I have been teaching for eight years, and every year, I advocate fiercely for my students. I am consistent, present, and committed to creating a safe, supportive, and empowering learning environment. I truly believe in the potential of every child in my classroom, and with your support, we can give them the tools they need to succeed not just academically, but emotionally and socially as well.
