Mindfulness Room at Our School

My Students

My students are mostly coming from at-risk homes of low poverty, having a grandparent or other relative care for them, and some of them are parents themselves. They all want an education just as much as a child that does not face such adversity, and they crave the same educational experiences as any other teenager.

We strive to provide experiences for our students to prepare them for their futures.

We give them the opportunities to visit colleges, technical schools, have speakers from all over the community come in to meet them. We give them sports, community outreach programs, events and more to help them achieve the ultimate educational experience.

My Project

Mindfulness education is the purposeful inclusion of mindfulness and mindful meditation principles, theories, and practices into education. Mindfulness helps students manage their stress more effectively and quickly. Frequent mindfulness practice—even micro-sessions of a few minutes or less—imparts health benefits. Research suggests that mindfulness programs can improve cognitive performance as well as resilience to stress and other factors the students might be using. With the yoga mats, different lighting, sound machine and fidget toys we are wanting to create a safe space for our students to practice being mindful. In the room they can be guided with a trained teacher who will work through techniques on how to be more mindful.
