This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Mindfulness is the ability to focus and stay in the moment. Mindful coloring is about bringing our awareness to the present moment by consciously focusing on color and design. Instead of focusing on breathing, the focus is on the weight of the marker, the shade of the colors on the paper, and the feelings that are being experienced throughout.
Mindfulness coloring has been proven to reduce high levels of anxiety, improve focus, and increase mindfulness.
What used to be known as a simple, fun activity for kids is now a tool for practicing good mental health. When students are focusing on their color choice and staying inside the lines, they are only thinking about the present moment. The noise around them is shut off, giving students' minds the gift of focusing on the movements, sensations and emotions of the present moment.
Please help me give my students gel pens, markers, and coloring books to practice mindfulness.
