Mindfulness Magic in the Classroom

Help me give my students a variety of fidgets, such as Crazy Aaron's Putty and Needoh sensory toys, to practice mindfulness and calm in the classroom.

My Project

During the school day, I often hear my students say they are stressed, overwhelmed, or frustrated. They can struggle to manage these feelings in a positive way. As a result, they do poorly in class because they are not able to calm down or leave altogether for a break. Occasionally, these outcomes can cause more stress and upset for my students.

The goal of this project is to create mindfulness bins for each classroom in my building.

These bins will have various fidgets and mindfulness strategies in them to help students be successful during their school day. These mindfulness bins will help promote calming and mindfulness strategies for students during times of stress, or allow students safe ways to take a break while still in the classroom. Stress balls, thinking putty, and other small fidgets are great ways to help students focus while in the classroom. These tools also help encourage students to practice and use appropriate coping/mindfulness strategies when they are feeling upset.

Practicing mindfulness can help students manage their difficult feelings, as well as help improve students' focus and self-regulation. By creating these mindfulness bins, I will support my students in their ability to better cope with the struggles they face throughout the day, and improve their overall social-emotional well-being.
