My students are incredible! My students are in kindergarten, first, second, third, fourth, and fifth grade. They are curious, inquisitive, hard-working, and dedicated. All of my students have Individualized Educational Plans, because they have been diagnosed with disabilities.
All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch at school.
They come from high poverty areas, and they all love coming to school. My students are brilliant individuals who learn differently than their peers. These students will be successful, and it's my job to create learning opportunities that ensure this.
My Project
My students are incredible individuals that bring unique experiences and backgrounds to school each day. I am creating this project to have two options for students to have assistance self-meditating throughout the day. Research shows that helping kids self-regulate yields to more effective learning.
All children deserve the tools they need to feel happy, safe, calm, taken care of and set up for success.
Throughout the day students are encountered with fight or flight situations based on how they perceive school, peer and adult relationships, and how students who have experienced trauma navigate their days. The sympathetic nervous system originates in the spinal cord and its main function is to activate the physiological changes that occur during the fight-or-flight response. This component of the autonomic nervous system utilizes and activates the release of norepinephrine in the reaction. The fight or flight response prepares the body for fast-paced action. ... Frequent or chronic activation of the fight or flight response, particularly in situations in which neither outcome is practical, can lead to digestive problems, increased risk of heart disease and the other known effects of chronic stress.
A mindfulness jar is a very powerful visual metaphor for being able to express one's feelings. The glitter in the jar represents your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. When a child is feeling upset or angry, he or she can shake the jar and watch the glitter and beads move around before gradually settling.
I feel confident that using these mindfulness jar will help students feel ready to learn!
