Mindfulness and Yoga German Health Improvement

My students need a lot of practice of mindfulness. They need yoga mats so we can do mindfulness and class yoga every day.

My Students

Every day we work on letting students learn to control their bodies. We close our eyes and imagine good thoughts in German. We practice mindfulness on a daily basis so our students with behavioral problems can learn to be aware of their bodies and gain peace and confidence.

Our students are immersion students so they only speak German in the classroom.

We have many students with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and behavioral consideration that are still learning to control their bodies and coping mechanisms. We have a mixed economic background school with engaged parents. Our students are full of energy and life and love speaking German.

My Project

One of the hardest things about second grade is sitting in one place. We try to move around the classroom for instruction and learning. We also practice mindfulness to give students confidence and help them learn to control their bodies. Students would use these yoga mats when they earn a reward for good behavior and do a short yoga video in German. They also would use these to practice mindfulness activities. Students with anger issues could use them as a safe place for them to regain control of their temper and body. Our students would share the Mat with a partner and learn to calm themselves and also learn language skills for commands and for anatomy.

Telling kids what to do can help them a few times.

Resolving issues is an ongoing part of second grade. Giving them the skills they need to control their bodies and calm themselves down can improve their lives long term. It will help reduce potential conflict in the classroom and increase their physical fitness and confidence. Students have been helped already and been able to use mindfulness and breathing techniques when they were frustrated with each other.
