My school currently serves approximately 2500 students in grades 9-12. My students come from homes with range from farms to public housing and everything in between. Most are from economically disadvantaged homes, as 100% of our students receive a free breakfast, lunch, and after school dinner.
Our motto here is that we are a "family." The students and staff alike have bought into this message of respect and compassion.
We provide them with a safe learning environment and try to meet each and every student's academic and personal needs. We feel if they are safe and comfortable, there are no limits to what they can achieve.
Our students have overcome many hardships by the time they come to us in the eighth grade. As a teacher, you set out to make a difference thinking you have something to offer your students, when in reality, it is often the students that do the most teaching.
My Project
High school is a very difficult time in our world today, especially 12th graders who are about to graduation and transition into the next step of their lives. We are instituting an alternative and highly-engaging curriculum for our 12th grade co-taught English classes! We will be focusing on mental health awareness while creating an overall positive environment for our students to learn in. Self-esteem, positive affirmations, essential oil study, addiction education, tolerance, perseverance, goal setting, stress management, etc. will all be topics covered. It is my goal for students to never ask the question "when will I use this?" in my class!
