This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with an incredible group of students who bring energy, curiosity, and resilience to our classroom every day. They’re eager to learn but, like all of us, they need a balance between focused academic time and moments to recharge. Many of my students benefit from having a space where they can take a break from the pressures of schoolwork, giving them a chance to calm their minds, refocus, and build the social-emotional skills they need to succeed.

The quiet room station I’m working on will be a calming oasis where students can engage with activities that help them unwind and reduce stress.

I’m requesting items like music players with relaxing playlists, coloring materials, board games, and soothing toys. Each of these resources serves a unique purpose in creating a peaceful environment.

Music can have a powerful effect on mood and concentration. Listening to calm music helps students settle, lowers stress levels, and brings them back to class ready to learn.

Coloring materials offer an artistic outlet for students, allowing them to express themselves and shift their focus from stress to creativity.

Board games encourage healthy social interaction, teamwork, and strategic thinking in a fun, low-pressure way, helping students build connections with their classmates.

Relaxation toys give students something to hold or play with that redirects nervous energy and helps them regulate emotions.

My goal for this project is to foster a safe, supportive space where students can practice self-regulation and return to their studies feeling refreshed. What makes my students truly special is their diversity—each brings a unique background, learning style, and set of strengths. Creating this quiet room station is just one way I can show them that their well-being matters and that they have a space in our classroom to feel safe, valued, and prepared to learn.
