Help me give my students multiplication pop its, charts, and electronic writing tablets to support and develop their identities as mathematicians in our inclusive leaning community.
Marvelous mathematicians, that's what my fourth graders are! As their teacher, I aim to design an inclusive learning community that encourages my students to value their own identities as mathematicians as well as those of others. Guiding my students to affirm their identity as individuals and mathematicians is a important part of our math curriculum.
Math manipulatives and sensory toys such as, multiplication pop its and electronic writing boards tablets, will foster our math community in which all students have a voice, tools, and visuals to support their thinking around math.
I am mindful of being culturally inclusive of the many ways my students can create their own mathematical knowledge which helps my students build knowledge together as we tap into their background knowledge and life experiences. Through the use of math tools, my fourth graders will have the opportunity to practice math concepts and develop strategies and skills in a social setting to build understanding while collaborating with peers. Promoting the use of tools in STEM helps my learners incorporate their individuality and learning styles to engage in mathematical thinking.
