This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember that one thing that you learned in school that changed your life? That one thing that defined you as a person who loved learning? With these Scholastic Magazines, you can help needy children explore who they are and who they may want to become.
The children at our school are from an inner city school in Southern California where all students receive free breakfast and lunch.
They are hard working, hard playing and compassionate children whose economic standing is the only thing standing in their way of great achievements. 85% of the students in my classroom are English Language Learners! and your donation will help bridge the gap between their home and the world around them.
My Project
With these Scholastic Readers, my fourth graders can learn about the world around them while still meeting state and national standards. These readers will add to classroom instruction and comprehension with fresh, current events that will foster critical thinking and love of the world around them.
The most important thing these magazines will do is expose a group of inner city children to a world that they could some day be a part of.
They will learn through models of positive influences on society and develop what type of person they aspire to be. These students need a window to a life outside of the gang-infested neighborhood we learn in.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
