Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I currently teach first grade at a Title I school. I have 28 students enrolled in my classroom. The students mostly come from low-income homes and according to my State Board of Education 98% of the students at my school were considered low-income in 2008-2009.
Help, we are in desperate need of a Mimio Interactive device for our classroom! This device attaches to any white board and connects to the computer so that my students would be able to see images projected from my computer. It also allows the students to come up to the white board and actively engage with the board. They can engage with the board in any subject, we can use this for writing, literacy, math, social studies, science and art.
The Mimio will benefit my students in so many ways! The majority of my students are ELL (English Language Learners) students, which means that they are beginners in the English language. This device would be great because it would help them learn English by providing many visuals. Visuals are some of the best tools for teaching ELL students.
Also, the Mimio would be a great addition for our classroom because it would provide my students with technology. Since I teach at an inner city school that is overcrowded the first extracurricular programs to be eliminated from our school were the computer classes, so now my students are not being exposed to technology in any aspect! They do not have computers at school or home and the “neighborhood” library which has computers is too far away! Just because my students are poor does not mean that they should not have the access or the opportunities to learn and interact with technology like the wealthier schools provide for their students.
