My Students

A typical day in my classroom is always changing and evolving since I have a range of students coming from different states (due to military transitions), variety of personalities, and disabilities ranging learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, Autisim, Other Health Impairment, and Emotional Disorders.

My students are extremely unique and special in many different ways.

They have a multitude of challenges in their lives that effect their academics and social abilities. They are not your average students since they are all active military families. Their struggles are very apparent and need a great deal of attention. Despite everything they are confronted with my students have the ability to overcome and strive for academic achievement. They have so much determination to grow and become stronger readers and writers. It's not an easy task for them, but they continue to push through and tackle what other students master. These students deal with on going deployments and still battle through common core standards. They have the potential to be as successful and maintain academic standards despite all the emotional and learning issues they go through on a daily basis. It is important that they are held to high standards so they can be active and productive community members

My Project

My students will use all of these organizational materials on a daily basis to hand in homework, keep daily assignments ready for upcoming lessons, and maintaining a well structured classroom, which my students thrive in. Routines and organization is extremely imperative to their learning environment. My students will also be able to use Story Works Magazine and Time for Kids during Level Literacy. These magazines provide high interest reading, which motivate students to improve on comprehension, discussion on topics, literary responses, as well as writing extension activities. Theses magazines will also help my students work on specific reading/writing goals that are written in their IEP (Individual Education Plan). I have used Story Works Magazines in the past and have seen my student improve their overall reading and writing skills as well as their engagement/interest in reading. Using the posters will also provide lessons that can be correlated with their reading assignments.

Having all these materials will do so much for my students.

They will have the opportunity to improve their overall academic and social skills, which is so important for children especially those with learning issues. Since our school has 100% active military families they will benefit even more. Having stability is so important for these students when they are in constant transition. Having a strong structured classroom with high expectations gives these students a chance to succeed.
