This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are so unique and special - they deserve to be celebrated and welcomed every single day they are present at school. It is essential for me as a Pupil Services & Attendance counselor to create a climate at all of my school sites where my students want to be active participants in their own educational journeys. The balloon arches, picnic blankets, and raffle wheel are all essential materials for our milestone day celebrations. My goal for these special events is to increase student and parent buy-in as well as recognize their attendance accomplishments.

Consistent and punctual attendance is a paramount factor in their future academic, career, and personal success.

The data does not lie - students who attend school on a consistent and regular basis are more likely to achieve at or above grade level as well as enjoy the long-term benefits of their academic accomplishments later in life. It is my obligation to tend to the various needs of all my students, but it all starts with them attending school. I can't help students who are not present to receive the necessary services and support they need.

My students' attendance is also essential in determining future funding for support staff such as teacher's assistants, instructional aids, parent/community representatives, and other support staff such as myself. Chronic absenteeism not only hampers the growth of individual students but the school community as a whole.
