This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in an area of low economic development. Over 90% of our students are growing up in poverty. Books and resources are scarce in their homes. But they come to school every day eager to learn and to apply their new skills.
My students love to learn and are full of questions about the world.
We read stories every day and one of my goals for them is to foster a passion for reading and for books. They love getting to know new characters and for many of them, it is their favorite part of the day. My students are the kindest, most curious, and fun class ever!
My Project
My students are learning basic math concepts like addition and subtraction and counting money. We need games for them to use in practicing their math skills. Every day they have time to "play" games that go along with the skills we are reviewing. They are having fun and learning at the same time.
Students need hands-on practice with their math skills.
These games would give them ways to move the pieces around and match up sums that go together. These resources would help our students apply what they are learning in class and help give them the foundation in math that they need for academic success.
