Help me give my students a LASER. This 60watt laser CNC will be use to integrate learning from math, music, science, and Tech in a design, engraving, and manufacturing process to build quality real guitars and other instruments.
I'm an Adaptive Physical Education teacher and STEM advocate at a Title I elementary school in NYC, with over 77% of our students receiving free or reduced fee lunch.
Our School is in a specialized district for highly specialized instructional support for students with significant challenges, such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, Significant cognitive delays, Emotional disturbances, Sensory impairments, and Multiple disabilities
This is a wonderful group of students. They may face many challenges but that doesn't stop them from coming to school to learn and grow. Now we just need your help to further empower our students on their journey.
My Project
One day while plotting my evil takeover of the department of education with high power lasers. My lame good guy colleagues, the wood shop and music teachers, started to plan their ongoing yearly collaboration to have our students hand build and learn to play their own real wooden guitars and other instruments. They said something about students efforts creating an incentive for them to apply learned skills from across art, math, music, crafting, and help motivate them to learn to play, but all I heard was LASER TIME.
Mind you, these are no low quality rubber band cardboard box instruments.
I was shocked to see photos of past years. In particularly by the quality of the instruments, and videos of the students drafting, building, and playing their own hand build instruments.
So if they are already building high quality guitars why do we need a $3,000 laser? Good question, we are a specialized school for students with disabilities. This CNC will help many of our students more fully participate in the design process, further STEAM, and provide students with some skills relevant to the future economy they will one day work in.
