Middle School Students Rocking Remote Computer Science

Help me give my students tools(a portable power station and a light stand for their teacher and earbuds for each student) to succeed during remote learning and help me produce improved instructional videos.

My Students

My students are amazing innovators who experience their world through a technology enhanced reality. Our class is a semester long introduction to Computer Science, including coding, problem solving and process design. This class is an elective course that is designed to expand students' ability to interface with computers and develop collaboration/teamwork skills.

We endeavor to challenge middle schoolers to expand their concept of technology beyond their smart phone or computer, we introduce them to game theory and app design to expand their ability to see why we are compelled to play/use our screens, and to inspire them to not only play video games/consume applications but create them as well.

For some students this course is their first experience programming, while other students bring years of coding experience to the classroom which creates unique opportunities for students to use teamwork to solve challenges or rethink solutions. Having a wide diversity of backgrounds and skills leads my students to produce a range of novel solutions to the challenges presented to them.

My Project

My students are faced with learning computer science remotely and often independently. Students will be tasked with interacting remotely with each teacher, thru zoom, email and class pages, and without the added support of peers sitting next to them.

Middle Schoolers are savvy consumers of videos on social media, youtube etc,.

Teachers should strive to understand their students and produce short well lit instructional videos. The equipment requested will help students thru being able to control their environment (earbuds w/ microphone and camera covers), and help me create vivid videos (power station allows for creating videos in external locations and the light will create a more polished experience).
