This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My middle school general music classroom is a place of creativity, sharing, and learning. In general music class, students develop foundation skills by performing on instruments, analyzing music, creating music with music technology, and deciphering music notation.

The students attend a metropolitan middle school in a large city in the Midwest.

Ninety-seven percent of the student population identifies as Hispanic, and ninety-eight percent of the student population is low-income. My students are ambitious learners, excited to learn about the world around them, and eager to create music.

My Project

My middle school general music students are naturally curious about the world around them and want to learn about musical instruments, musical composers, and hope to compose music themselves. Using the Chromebooks, students will use Soundtrap to compose music. Students will learn about music notation using Flat. Google Classroom will be used for interactive class projects and presentations.

This project will enable students to research musical genres, instruments, and to compose electronically using the Chromebooks.

The Chromebooks will open up the musical world beyond our classroom to students, and students will gain access to instruments, musical styles, performances, and music not currently available to them.
