My Students
Three years ago I took over the local high school boy's lacrosse program that was all but left for dead. The previous regime left us with little in the way of equipment, a bad reputation with the school, and year-long probation with the state lacrosse league. It was my job with the upcoming freshman class that will be seniors this year to change that fighting mentality and culture of the whole program.
Since that time we have successfully change how we are looked at as a program and are quickly getting more eager to learn players.
With this quick turnaround and unexpected growth, it has become possible to start a middle school lacrosse program. However, my assistant coach and I would be building this program from nothing and attempting to coach two teams at the same time. While this is a daunting task the ability for these kids to learn a great and exciting game will be well worth it.
We plan to have at least 20 middle schoolers that will be ready to learn the basics and finer aspects of this ever-growing sport.
My Project
Helmets are the most expensive piece of equipment that a Lacrosse player needs. It is also the most important piece of equipment a player needs. Without proper head protection, a player can get extremely hurt by a flying ball.
With the funding of this project, my middle school team will be able to stay safe while also having a matching team set of helmets.
Many of our players would not be able to afford to purchase their own helmets. Without help, players that are showing interest would be left to just watch this growing sport.
