My students live in Ohio and our school is one of the larger schools in our county. Most of my students come from low-income, high needs homes. They face challenges outside of the academic realm. Our school receives a grant in which 100% of the students are offered a free breakfast and lunch.
My goal is to engage every student, each and every day.
To do this, I try to create variety in my lessons by appealing to their learning styles and interests. My classroom is an inclusion classroom, and there is a wide range of learning levels.
I also coach track and cross country. I believe sports provide an opportunity to learn life skills such as time management, leadership, teamwork, and developing a success mindset.
My Project
Donations for this project will be used to purchase new track uniforms for our middle school girls. The current uniforms are very old, not enough of the sizes we need, and there aren't enough uniforms for a full team.
School sports are a great way for kids to develop good character and responsibility.
Leadership, perseverance, integrity, respect, and teamwork are just a few of these. Middle school is also a time where kids want to fit in and be a part of something. Track and field is a great opportunity for this because while it is competitive, it tends to be a social sport, too. Anyone is able to join our team as long as they are willing to commit to the team. We allow them to explore lots of different events to figure out what they are best at.
The uniforms will be worn by the girls at the Portage Trail Conference Track meets, as well as invitationals. We plan to make the uniforms last at least 4 years so your donations will continue to impact students.
