Middle School Coding with Marty the Robot! Let's Go!

My Project

5th - 9th grade students will code Marty using block coding and his multiple sensors to dance, kick a soccer ball, speak, etc. Kids will work in partners to have Marty walk a path and collaborate with each other on overcoming coding challenges when Marty does not respond as they think he should. When using Marty this past year (we had a 2 week lending program with Robotical), we were missing some of the features and the speaker was malfunctioning so there were some tasks left to be desired.

Our next plan was to take Marty to the middle school French and Spanish classes and show how he can translate back and forth in English.

Our students will lead both the design of the lesson to the World Language department as well as the coding technicalities as well.

We are asking for the 5 pack of robots so that a minimum of 10 students will be able to work in competition as well as in collaboration to overcome the aforementioned challenge along with open ended task of discovery learning using Marty's sensors. This will enhance the learning of over 300 students that would otherwise not have the hands on experience. I show new students videos of then the 8 students used Marty last school year and they get excited, but if they can get the robot in their hands the excitement will be exponentially great.
