This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Art Club meets every Wednesday after school and a dozen motivated students are itching for some new materials to experiment with. Materials like Sculpey Clay, gold leaf, and origami paper will allow us to broaden our project options.

My students are vibrant, curious, and making their way through the ups and downs of middle school.

96% come from low income households and 23% are English Language Learners. Among them is small group art kids dedicated to meeting every Wednesday after school to take things a little further than what we accomplish in class.

My Project

The small-group setting of art club allows students to take on a more focused study of certain processes and techniques with more one-on-one instruction. The new materials will be used for special art club projects, including initiatives to liven up the space of the art room and the Middle School hallways. Students will use the Duck tape to create wearable art, like purses and wallets. We'll explore narrative quilting with the embroidery hoops and muslin. Using glitter glue, tissue paper, and other art basics, we'll add flair to decorations for the middle school dance, the high school musical, and other special student projects.

Most of my students have had inconsistent art education.

This year has provided the greatest allowance of time for visual art in the school setting that they have ever had. Due to space, budget and resources some projects are currently inaccessible in the classroom setting. Art Club is open to all middle schoolers and provides an extra opportunity for the artistically inclined student to expand knowledge and skills.
