My Students

My students are great. They are smart and hard-working and funny and kind. Many of them excel at school, and for others,​ it's a struggle. Some of them read really well and voraciously, while others balk at reading and will do anything to avoid it.

My students are at an age when they still demonstrate a lot of childhood innocence and gain a broader social awareness and understanding of some complex issues.

Life for them can be exciting and overwhelming, but they want to succeed. They also want to feel that their learning has real-world applications.

My Project

One of my highest priority goals as a teacher is to get the right book in the hands of every student, so that each student believes they can be a reader. It just takes the right book to make reading fun.

Once students enjoy reading, they spend more time reading, and reading has been shown to reduce stress, increase empathy, and bolster student success across all content areas.

I know that I need to provide my students with a variety of great books so that I can encourage even the most reluctant readers to get excited about reading.
