Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students do not have many opportunities for reading and art outside of the classroom. I look forward to reading quality books to them and giving them supplies and opportunities to draw, cut, glue, and color pictures to take home and share. Any kind of support is appreciated in our classroom.

My school and my students are a low socioeconomic group.

The majority of my class receives free breakfast and lunch daily. I also have several students that receive a backpack full of food each Friday; this ensures they have healthy food over the weekend. My 24 students are a loving and friendly group that care about their teachers and each other. The majority of them are below or slightly below grade level in reading and math. We spend much of our time doing hands-on and group activities to help increase the learning in our classroom.

My Project

My students need cleaning wipes to clean all of our desks to stay healthy, quality glue sticks, dry erase markers, and crayons that are longer lasting. Having more crayons and glue will help increase the amount of drawing and art that we can do with our reading and math units. It will give my students a chance to show their thinking with pictures instead of just words; many of them will benefit from this. We do a large amount of work on whiteboards-both individual and group boards. We go through several boxes of dry erase markers a month, so a quality supply of those will help with completing board work. Finally, to help keep my students healthy and attending school, we clean our desks and tables each Friday.

Having a supply of cleaning wipes will help keep them germ free, healthy, and in attendance for more learning.

Any art supplies will assist them in coloring pictures and finishing work that adds to their learning.
