Flexible seating allows my students to move around the classroom to learn. Students can move to the front of the room, different seating locations set up around the room and to sit next to classmate to help support their friends learning through peer coaching. The classroom stools will be available for students to use when needed. Having clipboards for each student will allow them to complete math work around the room in our different, comfy, learning spaces. Students would be able to have a hard surface to workout problems versus using their notebooks or a book. This will continue to increase cooperative learning and the ability to have flexible seating while also completing assignments.
We are very fortunate to have students desk with white board table tops but that comes with a heavy cost!
We greatly need to restock our cleaning materials. We need Lysol spray, white board cleaner, new white board erasers and white board markers. I teach about 75 5th grade students in. math so these supplies have been quickly used. VFL serves students from a rural farming community. We currently have about 85% free and reduced lunch. Asking families to buy extra supplies and materials becomes a hardship to those who are barely making it by financially month to month.
Our students work hard each day and are able to earn "class cash." With the class cash, students are able to buy items from the class store. The latest hot item for our class store is Takis snacks. My fifth grade students would be ecstatic to see we updated our store with their favorite treat. This will even motivate them more to earn class cash!
