Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 18 transitional kindergarten students are 4-5 years old, early learners, and so excited to be in school. This age level is one of the most important years in a students' life. They're little sponges that soak up so much information in these first years of school. They come from a low-income community in central Washington, and nearly all of them are from low-income households.
My Project
We're half way through the school year and we're running low on supplies.
The rolled oats, white sand, and pom poms, as well as the fine motor tool set, will help fill our sensory box with new and exciting things.
Our sensory box is very important for early learning because they're able to improve their fine motor skills, language skills, social skills, and science and math skills. I change out the sensory box every week. That way they're more engaged and excited. In addition to the sensory box, the kiddos have individual play-doh containers at their desks. But their containers are cracked and broken and needing replaced with new food containers.
The pencil grips and fine motor tool set will also help some of my students with their pencil grip and hand strength that will be very beneficial as they grow older.
Also included are puzzle pieces, cotton swabs, paper plates, and popsicle sticks that we will use for upcoming art projects.
Lastly, a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will help me purchase resources online that can be used in our classroom. Teachers Pay Teachers is great for our small group centers and lesson planning.
