Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I will be teaching 1st Grade again this year at an elementary/middle school in the Baltimore City Public School System. Like many schools in Baltimore City, our school has a large population of low-income students and families. Our school is special because we serve one of the largest bilingual populations in Baltimore City Public Schools, with students representing 14 different countries speaking 10 different languages.

Like teachers across the country, we send home supply lists before the school year begins.

However, not all of our families are able to get the supplies on the list and the school is unable to supplement all the missing supplies. I believe very firmly that all of my students deserve a school experience that is not unlike the one I was fortunate enough to have. I have created a wish list of supplies that can help all my little scholars reach their full potential. We always appreciate any help that you can give.

My Project

We are halfway through first grade and we have been working hard. Since we have been working so hard all year we are almost out of some basic supplies we need for a successful year.

Basics like crayons, markers and soap help us to complete each day of learning.

With your help we can finish the year strong and ready for second grade. One of our big goals for the year is to add and subtract across 100. We use the dry erase markers and erasers every day to help us practice those skills. In our next writing unit, we will write stories about how a person’s life could be changed by the wind. The crayons will allow students to draw characters that look like them and their friends. And of course we need soap more than ever to help us all stay healthy and in school.
