FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. B.'s classroom raised $1,150
This project is fully funded
I teach at a small school district where I am the only science teacher for grades 7 through 11. I teach everything from life science to 7th graders to Biology to 10th graders to Anatomy and Physiology to 11th graders. We have microscopes, but all but one of them are mirror microscopes with very low zooms - and anyone who has ever taught science knows how impossible it is to really look at something with such low tech microscopes. These are the type that are usually found in elementary school classes and I am expected to use them for 11th grade anatomy students!
When I do microscope activities with my classes, I normally have to have them rotate around our 1 illuminating microscope with a 400x zoom. This breaks my heart, because they get so excited to see what's in there, but they can only look for a few seconds before passing it to the next student. I would love to have enough acceptable microscopes so that each group of 3 students can use their own, work at their own pace, and spend the entire class period exploring instead of a few minutes. These would be used for all my classes (about 80 students), especially 7th, 10th, and 11th grades, which are life science based. I have an average of 16 students in a class, and 1 good microscope already, so I am requesting 4 illuminating microscopes with zooms up to 400x.
