Science is such an interesting, fun subject, when students get to interact with their world. With new microscopes, each student could look at their world close-up and hands-on. There are many labs the students could perform, but the microscopes are essential. Any help is appreciated!
Our students are in the middle school, grades 5th - 8th.
We are a public charter school, and don't have as much funding as a normal public school might have. Our students are bright, innovative, and have the desire to succeed. They really enjoy doing labs, projects, and anything hands-on. We now have 2 new microscopes and several older, but it would be very beneficial if each student could have one to use on their own. We are working toward that goal and hope to one day have enough microscopes for each student to use individually!
My Project
There is so much we could do with new microscopes! For example, the students have been wanting to try the cheek cell lab, where they view their own cheek cells under the microscope. This activity would show them how science is truly related to their own lives. Also, the students have shown interest in looking at water from various sources under a microscope. We could look at water from local ponds, a fountain, and even the frog tank in our classroom. When students look under a microscope they will see an entirely new world! Microscopes are such a basic, essential piece of equipment in science. The students not only view what is in the microscopic world around them, but they also gain the experience of learning how to use the microscope. It would greatly sadden me if my students left our school, entered a high school biology class, and didn't know how to use a microscope. Please help fund the microscopes. They are truly needed.
New microscopes will help our students in a variety of ways.
They will not only gain the experience of using scientific equipment, but will also be able to see what all living things, even themselves, are made of. I have the desire to provide our students with this opportunity, and I hope you do too. Being able to use a microscope will also aide the students in future science classes, where the use of a microscope is essential to success in the class.
