My students are a fun group of creative and active fifth graders. We live in a rural, isolated village in northwest Alaska, where many students practice subsistence hunting and fishing to support their families. Most of my students are Native Alaskan and are taught traditional native values.
My students love playing sports, hunting caribou, riding snow machines and four-wheelers, going ice fishing, and sledding.
My students are a diverse group, with strong ties to their families, their culture, and the land. In the classroom, they are an energetic group that enjoys working in groups, doing hands-on activities, and playing goofy games.
My Project
Our school provides a wide range of after school activities for students to get involved in. Spelling bees, talent shows and sporting events are very popular among the students. These activities give the kids a sense of community and achievement. In order to keep them going, however, some of our old equipment needs to be updated.
These mics and cords will be used to keep all of our students involved in productive and positive activities after school.
They will also be used in staff and community meetings, school assemblies, and other school gatherings. Please help us to provide these great opportunities to our students with this much-needed equipment!
