This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
It's a high tech world out there! Our school has provided us with a subscription to an on-line reading site. These headsets with microphones will allow the students to hear and record their own reading which will help them improve their fluency.
My students are English Language Learners, who are eager to learn to speak, read and write English.
They love listening to stories and work very hard. They enjoy working on the laptops, especially when they can use them during reading, because they can hear the books being read to them and then practice building their fluency.
My Project
We have the laptops, we have the subscription to the reading website now all we need are headsets. These headsets, with boom microphones, will allow the students to listen to leveled books, record their own reading of the same books and then listen to themselves. This provides instant feedback and guaranteed engagement during reading as well as samples of their reading. These headsets will help make reading fun, like it should be.
Students will be able to better utilize the technology provided in the school to improve their fluency in English.
Word recognition will improve, comprehension will improve and students will enjoy reading as a result.
