My Students

Seeing students excited about science has been the greatest gift since joining DonorsChoose.org. Our district has faced a lot of financial hardship in recent years and your donations make hands-on learning and inclusion a reality in my classroom!

We are a rural, low-income school district surrounded by farmland, which many students live and work on.

Many of my students are tactile or kinesthetic learners who enjoy being able to get out of their desks, move around, work with their hands, experiment, and create things. I also have a unique group of learners with special needs who often require modified instruction to achieve success in our science class.

My Project

Using a microscope is an important lab skill in Biology classes, medical labs, and many science fields. I want to prepare my students for college and careers by helping them master their microscope skills in a fun way. High school students can get bored looking at preserved specimens so I want to pique their interest by integrating live specimens into our microscope labs.

Tardigrades, also known as water bears, are tiny aquatic animals that can survive in many extreme conditions, including outer space, wouldn't you be curious to see one with your own eyes?

An amoeba is a unicellular organism which has the ability to alter its shape; students will be able to watch the cells shape shift live through the microscope. Students will be excited to learn to use microscopes to view live microorganisms, then will transfer this learning to view other specimens throughout the school year. Students will also learn about cell structure, biodiversity, and other key concepts from our Biology curriculum. Please help me bring science to life for my students by donating to this project! Thanks!
