Micro:bits For My Students' Macro Ideas!!

Help me give my students the opportunity to create their own machines, games and tools with these devices I learned about at the "Introduction to Micro:bit" session of the 2021 Infosys Pathfinders Summer Institute.

My Students

I am the computer science teacher for kindergarten through fifth-graders at my school. Our school is diverse in the many cultures, languages, interests, and strengths represented. The mission of our school and a focus in my classroom is to foster each child's natural curiosity and help them develop skills as problem solvers and life-long learners.

My students love learning computer science and being creative!

They are inquisitive and are the most engaged when utilizing the many possible tools that technology can provide to make and create using physical materials and digital technology.

My Project

My students will be able to use micro:bits to apply and expand our computer science curriculum and their coding knowledge into physical projects. They will be designing, creating and programming these micro:bits to create games, robots and tools for real-life situations. At the 2021 Infosys Pathfinders Summer Institute, experts demonstrated and guided teachers using these platforms and components. After a week of collaborating with teachers and leaders from all across the country at the Institute, I am ready to bring these back to my students!

Students will see that coding can be actualized into real life tools and objects!

The micro:bits can be programmed with various online platforms to enhance projects designed with recycled materials or to use as a stand alone device.

The projects and activities utilizing these materials will provide students the opportunity to further develop their skills in computer science, engineering design, and 21st century skills.

I can't wait to get these micro:bits into the hands of my students to see all their ideas come to life!
