Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I am working with both diverse learners and ELL students. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences that incorperate art and science.
My students come from many different background and do not often have the chance to work with microscopes.
I want them to become interested in science through fun experiences in school. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire them to achieve excellence.
My Project
With these STEM supplies, I will be able to have my students work in small group with microscopes during their lab activities.
My students will get to explore the micrope world of mitosis.
These young scientists will be able to experience the microbe world through these slides. They will further utilize investigational skills with the new slides of mitosis. They will draw what they see and be able to understand how the process works by observing the slides. The microscopes will give my students the opportunity to further investigate different types of cells, and algae samples to discuss and record their observations.
