This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello! This school year I will begin teaching in a 7th and 8th grade departmental setting for the first time. My challenge will be to instill in my students a love of science. Last year, I had a group of students for all subjects and their most loved time of the day was science.
In the seventh grade, students explore the systems of the human body, genetics, evolution, and micro-life. Their investigations are conducted through experiments, collecting and analyzing data, creating models, and reading and analyzing information. One major component in the Micro-life unit is being able to find and see cells, bacteria, protists, and other small living organisms. Our current school microscopes did not allow the students to become "real" scientists. Only 2-3 microscopes work well enough to view the small organisms; sharing 2-3 microscopes in a class of 32 students was almost impossible.
To solve our problem, I am asking for a new set of microscopes to be shared between two students. However, please be aware that you would be helping many more students than that. These microscopes would be shared among all 7th and 8th grade students throughout the school year.
Thank you so much for your help!
