This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year, I teach several students who are English Language Learners. Reading beyond the course textbook is necessary for them to build their knowledge and understanding of the English language.

What better way to learn English than to read supplemental books using an Amazon Kindle e-reader?

Miami Reads is an initiative to provide a space (literacy lab) for English Language Learners to work with peers during lunch to read selected books with the aim of improving students' ease of speaking and reading English. The primary focus is students who are English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) levels 1 and 2, meaning limited understanding of the English language. Priority will be given to students who are currently enrolled in Pre-AICE World History and then extended to the school-at-large meeting the criteria of being an English Language Learner.
