This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach 32 excellent fourth-grade diverse learning students in a great school. Our neighborhood school is located in southwest Chicago, in a working-class community. The majority of my students come from minority families who, at present, are struggling financially.

I plan to make our classroom a home away from home.

I plan on using the floor cushions and the teepee as a calming area for students to use when they feel overwhelmed. The hooks and glue are to be used to hold up the posters and fairy lights that will be used to decorate the calming area. I plan on using the wire curtain to hang the curtains while designing a comfy atmosphere. The plastic bins will be used to store calming items such as coloring sheets, crayons, markers, and coloring pencils. In addition, they will hold various fidget toys that my students have learned to like. Finally, the dry-erase labels will be used to decorate our refrigerator bulletin board, where students can display their work. Just like they do at home.
