I teach in a classroom where we are excited about what we do.
We are expressive, critical thinkers.
We take risks, we learn from our mistakes, and we celebrate our successes. I teach orchestra. In grades 6-8, there are over 250 orchestra students between two buildings in my district. We are aspiring learners and musicians. We are excited about what we do, and we use music to explore history, science, literacy, and other arts. My students are racially and socioeconomically diverse. But they all have one thing in common. They are aspiring musicians.
My Project
The Measures of Success method book has proven itself to be a great resource in my beginning orchestra classroom. It teaches note reading in a systematic logical way, and incorporates cross curricular teaching in a way that I have not seen in other books for beginners.
In the Verona Area School district, beginning orchestra classes range in size from 50-70 students.
With groups this large, it is a struggle to make sure that all students have the materials they need to be successful. A classroom set of books will allow the students (and their teacher!) to stay organized, as well as ensure that students with financial need have access to the same resources as everyone else.
