Metamorphosis of a Reader: Early Literacy &The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Help me give my students "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" early literacy materials to use in their mentorship of elementary students at their area school.
Students have been researching the needs of our local community in an effort to design and implement a community impact project to be carried out during the 2nd semester of 6th grade. Through this study, they have identified 2 areas of significant need: early literacy and food insecurity.
My 6th grade gifted and talented class desires to mentor students at their area elementary school in order to have a positive influence on their early literacy growth and development.
Since they have been studying the needs of their community, students have been working on their leadership and creativity skills as it pertains to solving a real-world problem.
My student's are so excited to use the story, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" to give early elementary students a boost in learning how to read and count in order to improve their motivation to learn to read.
These materials will allow them to share the story, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" in a fun way. Then they will enjoy hatching butterflies together to learn about the life cycle of a butterfly. Finally, using the board games will enable them to teach elementary students about basic math, counting, addition, and subtraction in an interactive way. These materials will help make literacy fun!
