Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my district are consistently eager to learn and enthusiastic about new and exciting learning opportunities, despite the challenges that they face outside of the classroom.

Our students live in an urban, low-income city comprised largely of hardworking immigrant families, many of whom speak a language other than English at home.

Our students and their families have been severely impacted by the pandemic; the impact extends beyond academics to social-emotional health and general well-being.

I am continually impressed by how the majority of our students approach challenges, both in and out of the classroom. Our students love to learn, they love to develop and apply new skills, and they are resilient.

Teaching and learning are constantly evolving -- this year will be like no other, as we navigate the return to full in-person learning bring best practices from remote learning back into our classrooms and learning spaces, with a focus on SEL and personalized learning to meet every student's needs.

My Project

I am so excited to have moved into the role of Library Media Specialist for my 18th year in education. Our amazing elementary complex library serves students in four schools! As I work to develop my vision of a 21st century library media center and learning hub where students will collaborate and learn, I also need to update the materials and resources that students are accessing!

Magazines are an engaging resource that provide students with accessible grade-level text across a variety of content areas!

These subscriptions will help to create a news media center in our Library Media Center. Students love reading magazines that connect them to the world in an accessible way; they will also be exposed to new text structures and features. The informational magazines will also be a current resource for research projects, as students learn how to synthesize information from a variety of sources.
