My Project

The goal for this project is to incorporate compassion into their lives. They will create Christmas cards for those serving our country who are not able to be home for the holidays. The students will read and discuss the book, “Don’t Forget, God Bless Our Troops”. This book discusses what it is like to have family members serving. It discusses how a child can change a life, by small acts of kindness. They will discuss what it is like to be away from those you love. The students will discuss how they can support the troops by sending cards, like the daughter in the book. The students will gain an understanding of how their love and compassion can help soldiers around the world.

Learning how to show compassion for others and ways to show appreciation to those who fight for our freedom as well as bringing them joy during the holidays is a win-win situation.

We have made several strides at our middle school campus to show compassion to others. The students will discuss the definition of compassion and then explain it to their peers. This book study will allow the students to help alleviate the loneliness of the soldiers and allow them to feel loved.

The materials will allow the students to show compassion for others, offer love to others, and bring smiles to the soldiers when they may feel like they are alone.

After completing the project, the students will retell the book, and describe what compassion means to them. Their compassion will be measured by sharing their feelings with others about how it felt to write the cards to the military personnel and by the conversation with peers explaining why it’s important to show compassion for others.
